Desa Kincaid: Bounty Hunter, by R.S. Penney – Book Review
A wonderful story, a unique magic system and technology blend, and above all a sassy heroine with nifty abilities; what’s not to love?

Q.W.E.R.T.Y – A Haunting, by Barbara Avon
Q.W.E.R.T.Y. is a gut-wrenching story of love and loss, beautifully worded in a way that haunts you. Is this a Holloween story? I don’t know. It does have a healthy dose of spookiness and otherworldly experience, yet I feel like the main plot was Luke’s grief-induced madness, which is incredibly human. Going through the five stages of grief, he pushes everyone away and gets stuck in depression, watching his life spiraling down the drain.

The First of Shadows by Deck Matthews – Book Review
The First of Shadows has an intriguing and complex magic system that hasn’t been fully explained and explored in this book. The scenes are written vividly in a cinematic style that feels very modern. From the beginning, you get a high fantasy vibe that is maintained throughout the rest of the book.

Peyton 313, by Donna McDonald -Book Review
The premises of the book is fascinating. The plot is set in the future where humanity developed cyber soldiers to win a war, and afterward, instead of being freed, they were reprogramed and sold as slaves for corporate profit.

Re-Vamping Las Vegas, by Jen Pretty - Book review
In Revamping Las Vegas, vampires came out of the casket several decades ago and have already integrated seamlessly into society (that reminds me of the Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris where vampires came out of the coffin in a similar manner).

The Written, by Ben Galley - Book Review
Ben Galley’s debut novel paints an intricate story with fantastic characters putting a new spin on popular myths while struggling to save their world. As with any high fantasy, expect crazy names and plenty of metaphors.

Hex at a House Party, by Gretchen Galway - Book review
In this installment, Alma is sent to a house party to spy on the witches on behalf of the protectorate. Most of the action takes place at the house party and follows the classic patterns of a murder mystery. Alma has to work around a web of lies, and everyone has secrets to hide. I loved how it kept me guessing at every turn.
