Skulduggery by Helen Harper is the third book in her Thrill of the Hunt series, and it continues to deliver just as much action, humor, and intrigue as the first two. The story picks up where Fiendish Delights ended. This installment offers a deeper dive into Daisy’s past, tying up loose ends while setting the stage for even more thrilling adventures. I felt this book concluded most unresolved plot threads, so I expected it to be the last of this series. But fear not. There’s one more before the curtain drops.

A Magical Treasure Hunt with High Stakes

When Daisy is offered a job to track down a long-lost magical skull, she enlists the help of Hugo and his Primes. Their journey takes them on such a wild adventure, facing enemies at every turn. But, of course, Daisy’s loyal and hilarious brownie sidekicks, Otis, and Hester, are right by her side, providing the perfect comic relief as they have to fight danger and deception.

Daisy’s success in retrieving the skull is short-lived, as an unexpected visitor surprises her, leading to the accidental activation of its magic. Oops! And just like that, the true adventure begins.

What I Loved

Exploring Daisy’s past adds another dimension, making her story more captivating. I loved that her relationship with Hugo continues to evolve, and their chemistry finally culminates in a satisfying romantic development. It was about time! The book is packed with nonstop action, from intense battles to encounters with vampires and blood magic. The pacing keeps you hooked from beginning to end. Hester and Otis once again steal the show with their hilarious antics, adding just the right balance of humor to the tension. Despite some predictable moments, the story remains cleverly written and highly engaging, leading to a conclusion that feels rewarding.
