Every so often, a book comes along that is just pure, unfiltered fun, and That Time I Got Drunk And Saved A Demon is exactly that. This is, without a doubt, the funniest book I’ve read all year. It’s lighthearted, utterly entertaining, and packed with humor, adventure, and romance.

What I Loved
The protagonist, Cinnamon, is an absolute delight. She’s relatable, witty, and exactly the kind of heroine you want to root for. Her no-nonsense attitude mixed with a penchant for getting into ridiculous situations makes her such a refreshing character to follow. Then there’s the demon—mischievous, swoon-worthy, and the perfect counterpart to Cin’s energy. Their dynamic is chaotic in the best way possible, filled with banter, tension, and some seriously spicy moments.
The plot keeps you engaged from start to finish. It’s adventurous, fast-paced, and never takes itself too seriously. The humor is on point, making this a book you’ll find yourself laughing out loud to. And let’s talk about the food descriptions—because wow. I’m convinced the author was hungry while writing this, and now I’m craving crayfish like it’s the rarest delicacy in the world.
Another thing that stood out to me is the element of found family. While it doesn’t come into play until later in the story, Cinnamon’s actual family is a breath of fresh air. So often in fantasy, family dynamics are either tragic or nonexistent, but here, her family is fun, lively, and adds to the heartwarming charm of the book.
What Didn’t Resonate With Me
The demon gets a little too murderous at times. I get that he’s a demon, but despite the overall coziness of the story, a few situations get unexpectedly gory. It felt a bit jarring considering the otherwise light tone. Another minor issue is the language—while it’s fun and modern, it sometimes feels out of place in the medieval fantasy setting (at one point, something is described as “suss”).
If I had to nitpick, I’d say that the sheer energy of both the protagonists and the supporting characters can be a little overwhelming at times. It’s like being at a party where everyone is just a little too hyped up—but honestly? I just embraced the chaos and had an absolute blast with it.
